Origin 

Basmati rice is native to India and is cultivated in huge amount in West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, jasmine rice is grown in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. 

Appearance and texture 

Both the varieties look similar when dry but when cooked, basmati is non-sticky, fluffy and has long grain with slightly curled edges, while jasmine rice is sticky, starchy and is a short grain. 

Aroma

When it comes to rice, aroma plays a very important role and we smell it first and then eat. The nutty smell of basmati makes it so popular. The aroma of jasmine is floral and worth trying once. 

Black rice export is definitely name of the game but white basmati is unmatchable. One must study the international markets in depth before starting the business.
